Women in Christ

This has been a particularly sober month in the news. My heart and prayers go out to the many people who are suffering in ways I can't imagine. Our hope and strength is in our Lord, Jesus Christ. In him, we have a promise of a better life in the world to come.

This month we see how Abraham sent his servant out to Get a Wife for his son Isaac. Rebekah was a willing, perhaps excited, bride, facing the unknown. Isaac loved her. There is one who has an even Greater Love for us. We can look forward to the time of the future wedding:

I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:

“Hallelujah!
For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and be glad
   and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready.
Fine linen, bright and clean,
   was given her to wear.”

(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God's holy people.)

The Narrow Gate

Jesus exhorts, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). ...more

Rediscovering Jonah, The Secret of God's Mercy By Timothy Keller

Keller, Pastor and author, writes: “The book of Jonah yields many insights about God's love for societies and people beyond the community of believers; about his opposition to toxic nationalism and disdain for other races; and about how to be 'in mission' in the world despite the subtle and unavoidable power of idolatry in our own lives and hearts. ...more
