These studies do not tell you what the Bible says. The scriptures given direct you to specific topics. The questions are intended to help you focus on the study. No answers are given. You have to read and search the scriptures for the answers. We encourage you to use Bible helps such as concordances and commentaries. However, scholars and theologians often disagree on interpretation and application. The best study help comes from God. Pray. Allow yourself to be honest with your reactions, but don't jump to conclusions. It takes time to read and meditate on all the Bible says on various topics. Feel free to ask questions in your prayers. You will be amazed to discover that God does answer the sincere seeker. You will also be surprised that the Bible may not say what you might think it does on many subjects. Keep a notebook. A loose leaf one would make it possible to add thoughts and additional information as you learn more about different subjects. Welcome to an exciting search. |

1. John 15:12-17; Ephesians 5:1-2. Jesus gave his disciples a command to love as he loves. What is love? 2. 1 Corinthians 13:1-13. Give examples of how to love in the way this passage describes. For example: love is patient---a parent persisting in guiding a curious child into safe activities and away from dangerous ones. Do the same for each descriptor. 3. 1 Corinthians 12:7; 14:1-5. How does love affect the way the gift of prophecy is expressed? 4. Matthew 24:12; Luke 11:42. How can we avoid neglecting love, justice and allowing our love for God and others to grow cold? 5. 1 Corinthians 8:1-3; Romans 12:9-21; 13:8-10. In what ways does love build? Why is knowledge not enough? How is love the fulfillment of God’s law? 6. Hebrews 10:24-25. What encourages others to “love and good deeds?” What is meant by “meeting together” rather than just occupying a seat in a church building one day a week? 7. Colossians 1:3-8; 3:12-14; Galatians 5:22-23. What is the source of love, of being motivated to show love to others? 8. John 15:1-17; 2 Peter 1:3-11. Describe what remaining in Christ means. What is our part, the effort we put in to make our “calling and election sure?” 9. 2 Peter 1:12-15. Why is it important we continually remind each other of the “weightier matters” of the Christian life? |
