INTRODUCTION TO BIBLE STUDY GUIDE

These studies do not tell you what the Bible says. The scriptures given direct you to specific topics. The questions are intended to help you focus on the study. No answers are given. You have to read and search the scriptures for the answers. We encourage you to use Bible helps such as concordances and commentaries. However, scholars and theologians often disagree on interpretation and application. The best study help comes from God. Pray. Allow yourself to be honest with your reactions, but don't jump to conclusions. It takes time to read and meditate on all the Bible says on various topics. Feel free to ask questions in your prayers. You will be amazed to discover that God does answer the sincere seeker. You will also be surprised that the Bible may not say what you might think it does on many subjects. Keep a notebook. A loose leaf one would make it possible to add thoughts and additional information as you learn more about different subjects. Welcome to an exciting search.

Bible Study Guide:

Fear God

By Scarlett Stough

To prepare for this Bible study, please read the women in Christ commentary, Whom Shall I Fear?

1. Psalm 27. What were some of the fearful situations King David faced? Are there situations in your life which cause you to be afraid? How did King David gain courage and confidence? When you are afraid, in what ways can you restore your own?

2. Matthew 8:23-27; Mark 4: 35-41. Read both of these accounts and notice the similarities and the differences between them. How did Jesus answer their desperate fear? What authority did Jesus have which saved them?

3. Matthew 10:5-42. When Jesus sent out his disciples to take his message to Israel, he gave them instructions and warnings. How were they to handle rejection and persecution as they went from town to town? Who were they told to fear and to not fear and why?

4. Hebrews 10:26-39. Although "it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God" (KJV), what enables us to persevere in confidence rather than fear?

5. 2 Timothy 1:6-7. How do we stir up courage to live in fearful times and situations?

6. 1 John 3:21-24; 1 John 4:16-19. What is our confidence before God which dispels fear?

7. Psalm 118:1-9; Hebrews 13:6; Philippians 4:4-9. How do you deal with your own anxieties and fears?
