“We Christians greatly enjoy talking about the provision of God, how Christ defeated sin on the cross and gave us His Holy Spirit to empower us to victory over sin. But we do not as readily talk about our own responsibility to walk in holiness”, Jerry Bridges wrote in the preface to his book The Pursuit of Holiness.
His book covers the holiness of God and the importance of acknowledging God's holiness. Because God is holy, he hates sin. Jerry Bridges said, “Hatred of sin as sin, not just as something disquieting or defeating to ourselves, but as displeasing to God, lies at the root of all true holiness.”
The author instructs the reader on the benefits of holy living and the necessity for considering the holiness of Christ. The author asks, “What should I look to God for and what am I responsible for myself?” Then he answers these questions from Scripture. The reader will have a better understanding of how to live a holy life through the Scriptures quoted, the explanations and illustrations given by the author.
