Forget Not All His Benefits

By Scarlett Stough

Whenever I need comfort, encouragement and a reminder of the goodness and greatness of God, I return to David's Psalm 103. In it I am reminded of all God's benefits—his grace—to all of us.

We can look to God for forgiveness, healing (in his time), redemption from death, and even if no one seems to care, God's love is constant. I am drawn also to the verse which states “so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's” (Psalm 103:5). I'm only two years shy of my 80th year; I definitely do not feel “youthful” in my body. But when I read that verse I do feel the renewal of the faith that began growing in my heart and mind as a teenager.

Our Heavenly Father knows the weakness of our physical bodies and the brevity of this mortal life, but his love and compassion do not fade with time (vs. 13-17). Though our time now is short, we can choose the life in Christ given to those who believe (John 6:35-40).

We can praise the LORD for his gracious compassion towards us in all his amazing gifts as we remember “all his benefits”.
