The Mind of Christ is rich with explanations of the Scripture that commands "Let this [Christ's] mind be in you" and personal examples of the author, T. W. Hunt. This book gives a detailed description of what the mind of Christ looks like from the life of Christ and the Bible.

In Chapter One the author begins with adjectives that are used to describe the mind of Christ: Alive (Romans 8:6) Peaceful (Romans 8:6) Single Minded (devoted) (II Corinthians 11:3) Lowly (Philippians 2:3) Pure (Titus 1:15) Sensitive & Responsive (teachable) (Luke 24:45)

T. W. Hunt writes, "The mind that is alive chooses the spiritual rather than the fleshly. For example, take our thought life. The world sends a constant barrage of messages to us--politics, world, business, sex, sports, products, and others. God also is sending us messages, messages about His expressed will in the Bible for us, promptings about words to say or not to say, anger to control, or patience to extend."

He goes on to describe the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) and the qualities of wisdom (James 3:13-4:3) which also describes the mind of Christ: "Christ was a glorious, integrated whole…He had an integrated mind. He only had one great passion and all His attributes work hand-in-glove with one another….His purity can but result in peace….He is unmixed; nothing in Him contradicts anything else in His mind or His personality."

The author reminds us, "To have the mind of Christ is to be a servant." Chapter Six derives a six-part biblical definition for "servant" from the parables of Jesus. For instance, he writes about "watchfulness." "We cannot be obedient until we are watchful. We are to be watchful for Christ's return (as He said), but we also should be alert to the leading of the Lord in our daily lives."

In Chapter Seven, the Beatitudes are discussed: "From the beginning, God intended our Christlikeness….Whatever glory we finally attain; God will use our time on earth to prepare us….His training program is found in the Sermon on the Mount. The basic principles of living to please God are spelled out in that sermon….Jesus tells us what redeemed humans are to be and what kind of behavior pleases God."

Chapter Eight talks of being Humble and Obedient like Christ. As to humility, "The attitude of humility can be adopted as an act of the will….We must require of ourselves that we become other-directed….Much of having the mind of Christ is an act of the will, yet it is not self-effort. It is directing our attention to the leadership of the Holy Spirit."

As to obedience, "With God only one kind of obedience counts, and is total obedience. Our goals are His goals….How is your life counting for Christ through radical obedience?"

Chapters Nine and Ten describe Jesus as Crucified and Raised from the Dead. Each of these chapters explains how we can be like Christ through these actions and attributes of Jesus. For example, "The only place resurrection can occur is out of death. What do you need to die to? For me it was a career. For some it is money and comfort."

Chapters Eleven and Twelve expound on the phrase "A Name above Every Name" and Chapter Thirteen on the phrase "Now and Forever, Amen."

The value of reading this book will be in proportion to how well we put the teachings of Jesus into practice in our lives and so begin to think more like him as our minds are transformed by the Holy Spirit at work in us.
