Jesus taught us, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth," but instead, "store up for yourselves treasures in heaven" (Matthew 6:19, 20). Then he said, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21).
His entire Sermon on the Mount (Matthew chapters 5 through 29) instructs on how to store up treasure in heaven. God wants us to know him and he wants to know us; not just a passing acquaintance of knowing each other exists, but a personal knowing of what the other loves and hates with a deep desire of pleasing and helping one another.
The way we come to know God is to know Jesus. We know Jesus by reading about him in The Holy Scriptures, by following his teachings, by prayer, and by loving people. Only in learning to love the people around us can we even begin to know how to love God. Knowing God is only possible by receiving his Holy Spirit and following the Spirit's leading, our guide to the only lasting treasure, believing in Jesus who is the Way to the Father and eternal life in his kingdom.
The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come;
And
Whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.
Revelation 22:17
