The Pharisees just did not get
it. Perhaps it was because of the history of Israel going into captivity.
After they got back, they wanted to make sure that would not happen again.
That fear of captivity may have morphed
into the Pharisees tradition, or version of the law. Instead of teaching
the law as a blessing from God, they turned it into a burden, adding additional
rules to be kept.
In Deuteronomy 6:2 God instructed his people
to keep the law “so that you may enjoy long life.” Notice that God
wants us to not only live a long life, but to enjoy it.
Rebekah,
Isaac’s Wife, was so intent on her favorite son, Jacob, receiving Isaac’s
blessing, that she ignored God’s law. What can we learn from her mistake?

God’s law this month in The Simple Faith

Good is the Birthright to Me?
