When you are on a trip in a car
with a young fussy child, it helps to know when you will arrive at your
destination. That knowledge helps you endure and be patient with the child.
Young children do not yet have the complete
concept of time. They just know they are uncomfortable, hungry or tired
and the trip seems endless. They don’t know when the trip will end.
We tell them we will eventually get there.
Perhaps we encourage them by letting them know what they will do when they
arrive, or, if heading home, we tell them they will soon be in the comfort
of their own home again. If they listen, they will learn they eventually
will be getting out of the car and will be comfortable once more.
As children of God, we, too, are heading
toward a destination. We don’t have the same concept of time our heavenly
Father does. Jesus brings hope to his people. He brought the Good News
of the coming Kingdom of God and lets us know we are all invited.
It is important to meditate on the return
of Jesus and the reward he will bring. Like the child, we must try to wrap
our minds around the idea that we will eventually reach our destination
and we will no longer have the discomfort we now have.
In A
Great Woman (Part 3), we learn of the trip the Shunammite woman took
and what occurred when she returned home. In The
Renewal of All Things we examine the return of Jesus Christ to this
earth.
