I read the story of Dinah and
I have many questions. Why was Dinah visiting the women of the land? The
people of the land did not know the God of Abraham. Was she curious about
the way they lived or was she trying to teach them about the God of Abraham?
How could Jacob keep quiet about the violation of his daughter? Did he
fear man more than he had faith in God to protect him? Why did her brothers,
while justifiably angry, use deception and violence rather than allowing
God to handle the situation?
God does not answer those questions directly
in His word. But I see his reaction. He calls Jacob to Bethel, the place
where God confirmed the covenant he had with Abraham with Jacob. Jacob
purges from his people the foreign gods among them. He calls on his people
to “purify yourselves and change your clothes.”
A Disgraceful
Thing has revealed the need to come out of a poisonous society, clean
themselves up and recommit themselves to God.
As we read the story of Dinah,
we should examine ourselves. Is There More
Than One God in Your Life? Are we following The
Simple Faith about Holiness? Come join us as we learn from the example
of Dinah.
