"Anyone who loves his father or
mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter
more than me is not worthy of me;” Matthew 10:37
Living this principle can seem difficult.
People are flesh and blood and their response to an action of our love
often gives us immediate gratification.
With God, we must be patient and often
must wait for his response.
“Be patient, then, brothers, until
the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable
crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be
patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near.” James 5:7-8
If we are not careful our love for others,
or for things, can get our focus off of Jesus Christ. Taking care of their
desires, or our own, becomes more important than doing what God wants us
to do. God has an eternal perspective. Since he is our heavenly Father,
following him is the best in the long run for us and those we love.
Solomon’s wives represent someone or something
else that was put before the love of God. It led to the wrenching away
of the kingdom from Solomon’s family.
This month we examine the example of Solomon’s
Wives, how they led him away from God and what in our own lives may
be leading us away.
