Do I work hard in the Lord? That
was a tough one to answer. When I look among the examples of women working
hard in the Lord, I do not see myself there.
Most of my day is spent earning a living.
With eating, sleeping and keeping up with the chores of a household, that
does not leave a lot of free time.
I suppose I am among most “average” Christian
women when it comes to "working in the Lord." While I do have a small part
to play on this website, I am not out preaching to people. I do not run
a mission to help the poor and needy.
I give money to the needy on a regular
basis. I try to help whenever I see some one in need of help. I hope that
my actions as a Christian speak louder than any words I may say. I do what
I can, but I feel it falls so short of the need I see.
Thankfully, I can depend on God’s grace.
Where would any of us be without it?
“This is a trustworthy saying
that deserves full acceptance (and for this we labor and strive), that
we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and
especially of those who believe.” I Timothy 4:9-10
Sometimes I feel weary and discouraged because
I feel like I do so little.
“Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the
ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding
no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power
of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble
and fall;
but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not
grow weary,
they will walk and
not be faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31
I read somewhere that we should notice how
the scripture goes from soaring, to running, to walking. The author suggested
as we go through our lives we realize how much there is yet to be done.
While he was focused more on our personal lives, it could also apply to
the “harvest” we see around us. I feel as though I have slowed to walking.
I hope the example of Tryphena and Tryphosa,
Romans 16:12, and the many other women who worked hard for the Lord, inspire
us to do whatever we can. And may the Lord add new workers who "soar like
eagles," "run," and "walk but not faint" or "grow weary" as we all
work together on bringing in the harvest.
