We have many examples in the Old
Testament where the Israelites turned from God. Because of this, God allowed
them to be oppressed by the nations around them. When they were deep in
despair, they would call out to God.
They did not have the strength to overcome
those who had them in bondage. Only God could subdue their oppressor. Each
time this happened, the Israelites had their part to do. Even when the
situation looked helpless, they would need to take that step of faith in
overcoming their oppressors. They stood up against the odds knowing God
would subdue their enemy for them.
Our oppressor is sin. We, too, have to
take those steps of faith in overcoming our sins. We can go forward knowing
that God will subdue our oppressor.
Sometimes God provides us with a Jael
to help us overcome. Sometimes we are the Jael that helps someone else
in subduing their oppressor.

people to help us.
“From him the whole body, joined
and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself
up in love, as each part does its work.” Ephesians 4:16
