Notes from Nancy

This month, we focus on commitment. We have a wonderful example to explore in the book of Ruth and a delightful exhortation to keep busy serving God.

Additionally, the category Response from Readers has been added.

One of the letters requested an explanation of 1 Timothy 2:9-15.

As I stated in the response, this is one of the "hot" topics that tend to divide many Christians.
Below is a more detailed response to that question:

In the About Us section we state:
We believe that each believer in Christ is responsible to grow in the knowledge and grace of the Lord Jesus and to be convinced in his or her own mind about what to believe and practice.

We do not want to tell you what to believe, but want to encourage, exhort and hopefully inspire you to learn from God's word with the Holy Spirit guiding you into truth.

The Bible studies are design for you to pray for guidance, read the Bible and read the questions to consider what God is trying to say to you. The WIC commentary is to give inspiration for the current study through the example, whether good or bad, of a woman in the Bible that we can learn from. Over time, we feel women can learn from the women of the Bible what God allows and expects them to do with their gifts. We feel using the information on our site can be used as a tool to help guide you.

That being said, we know it is helpful to read more detailed, scholarly studies on women's role. A short list of suggested readings is in Book Reviews this month. These books have been helpful to us.  "The Guidelines for Research Reading," on our web site can also be useful whether you are reading a book or information on a web site.

A brief explanation of an interpretation of I Timothy 2  made in an article "Paul and Women Teachers: Understanding I Timothy, Chapters 1 & 2" by Dianne D. McDonnell is a good starting point. http://www.churchofgoddfw.com/women/paul&women.shtml  We do recommend that you read the books for a fuller perspective.

There are many resources out there with different views. Feel confident that the Holy Spirit will guide you when you ask God for wisdom. (James 1:5; Proverbs 2:6; 3:5).

I hope you enjoy and will be inspired by this month's issue.
