On reality shows today, many people
are vying for the proverbial fifteen minutes of fame. I thought of this
when reading the genealogies of the twelve tribes of Israel in I Chronicles
4 - 8.
There is a long list of people with, for
the most part, nothing more than their name mentioned, . But now and then,
we get a glimpse into a person's life. We don't see merely fifteen minutes
of fame, but a moment in history.
At this time, perhaps the most well-known
person that we get a glimpse of is Jabez. There are numerous books and
products out today concerning Jabez's prayer.
Since all scripture is inspired or "God
breathed," I believe these glimpses are significant.
A woman's name mentioned is even more significant
in this patriarchal society. In the list of the genealogies of the twelve
tribes of Israel only a few women are mentioned. Often the name seems only
to identify the mother of a particular descendant.
Sheerah stands out among this list. Her
accomplishment is significant. She built three cities. She has her moment
in history.
We too can have our names written down
in a significant way. "If anyone's name was not found written in the book
of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire." Revelation 20:15
We can have more than a moment in history,
and much more than a mere fifteen minutes of fame. We need only to build
something that will last longer than cities.
Join us as we learn how to build on the
foundation of the living Stone and have our names listed in the book of
life.
