I was totally offended by the
Super Bowl half-time show. CBS has apologized for Janet Jackson's exposed
breast at the end claiming they knew nothing about it. That may be true,
but they should have warned parents that lewd dancing and singing would
take place. One of the songs had a line in which the male singers said
something about the girls taking off their clothes. Then the girls ripped
off their outer clothing revealing little T-shirts and shorts. I am sure
CBS knew about this ahead of time.
I am even more upset because my daughter,
who is in the Army Reserves, shipped out to Iraq this very day. The purpose
of our soldiers being there is to bring democracy to their country. I recalled
seeing a news report shown when our troops first arrived. A man was cheering
and greeting them saying, "Democracy, sex, and whiskey." (From the commercials
of the Super Bowl it would probably be more apt to say, "Sex and beer.")
Earlier this week, I heard that a student
had gotten in trouble for ending a broadcast with, "God bless." He was
removed from doing the broadcast until he promised he would not say God
bless anymore. I am sure he could have quoted some of the lewd lyrics from
the songs of the half-time show and been in a lot less trouble. It makes
me wonder, "What are our soldiers fighting for?"
I take solace and strength in knowing my
ultimate citizenship is of the Kingdom of God, not of the United States
or any other nation in this world.
God has blessed this nation in the past,
but more and more citizens of this nation are forgetting where those blessings
come from. He doesn't need to remove those blessings because the sins of
the people will accomplish that for the whole nation. Some of the commercials
and the Super Bowl half-time show are examples of slavery to sin.
"Don't you know that when
you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to
the one whom you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death,
or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?" Romans 6:16
I know I can not change the behavior of another
individual. God gave us free will. We can only change our own behavior
and be a light for others.
