I heard a co-worker say one day,
"It says in the Bible who ever believes in Jesus will be saved." He inferred
others should not judge his behavior; he needed only to believe in order
to have eternal life. He was referring to John 2:16. "For God so loved
the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him
shall not perish but have eternal life. "
But is believing all that it takes? James
2:19 states, " You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons
believe that--and shudder."
Before Christians were ever given the name
Christians, they were referred to with a different name.
"Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing
out murderous threats against the Lord's disciples. He went to the high
priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that
if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women,
he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem." (Acts 9:1-2 emphasis mine.)
Believers were known to others by the way
they lived, not merely by stating their belief.
We make a choice and for the rest of our
lives we strive to live the Way that demonstrates we are to be "Heirs According
to the Promise."
