Notes from Nancy

"Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way." (II Thessalonians 3:16) I relied heavily on that peace this past month. I was knocked off the road by a semi-truck. Four days later, I was sitting at work and coming down with the flu. I was developing a fever and chills. Then I found out that the truck driver's insurance company did not want to cover the full amount of the damage. They were expecting me to pay over $680 toward the repair of the car. And currently there is another family crisis going on which I won't share to protect the name of the "innocent."

My son wondered why I wasn't mad at the truck driver who had sent me spinning across the highway. I was thankful that I was not hurt except a minor bump on the elbow. I am sure the driver did not do it intentionally. Getting enraged at the driver would not have accomplished anything. I have found that getting angry accomplishes little.

With the peace Jesus has given us, we can learn to live with the "unfair" things that happen to us and our loved ones. For the world is not fair. Jesus pointed this out in Luke 13:1-5. "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? I tell you no."

We look forward to a better world. Until that time, the peace that God gives us will get us through the trials of this life.

I hope you will enjoy learning more about peace in this month's issue.
