Fearlessly With Great Boldness

By Scarlett Stough

One thing every Christian can do fearlessly, boldly, and confidently is pray for God to enable those he calls to preach the gospel fearlessly, with great boldness. Whatever our age or condition or personality or gifts and talents, we can and are urged to pray. The apostle Paul asked for prayers so that he could boldly present the "mystery of the gospel" which he did even in prison.

Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly* make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
Ephesians 6:19-20

Our world today needs men and women who will speak up with all confidence, yet with gentleness and respect the good news Jesus brought which Paul preached. Not everyone is called to preach; sometimes our circumstances require silent "preaching" through the way we live our lives. But people cannot turn back to God if they never hear the true gospel.

Paul's ministry of preaching is gone except through his writings; but we can pray for God to send out preachers who are not ashamed or afraid to teach about both God's wrath and God’s mercy. We can all pray as the early church did:

Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness*. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus. After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
Acts 4:29-31

When God's time comes and he is ready, he will answer that prayer. Are we ready to accept the challenge to pray this prayer that the gospel be preached boldly in our time?
