| Carol Kent, the author of Becoming a Woman
of Influence, Making a Lasting Impact on Others, wrote, “The only perfect
mentor who ever lived was Jesus. If you are waiting for that level of perfection
before you make yourself available, it won’t happen.”
The foreword states, “This book is a condensed discussion guide based on Becoming a Woman of Influence by Carol Kent. It is designed to help small groups of women learn together how to become Christ-followers and influencers.” I used the book as a personal study guide. Since it has only seven chapters plus the foreword, it can easily be done in a week of daily study. Carol Kent covers six principles from the life of Jesus that are essential to becoming an effective mentor. Every Christian can practice these principles at some level---parents with children, friend to friend, church member to church member. Most are not difficult because the source of strength and wisdom is the love and power of God. God’s love and power is available to all who live in Christ. Carol Kent exhorts, “Let’s not let fear
hold us back. Let’s see people as Jesus saw them---people with great potential.
Remember, making a lasting impact on others doesn’t have to do with you,
it has to do with how much you become like Jesus.” Isn’t that
the goal we all have?
