This book (loaned to me by a friend) surprised me. I was expecting a traditional call to male domination (code word: leadership) and to female subservience (code word: submission.) Instead, the story of the redemption of Ruth and Naomi is examined from the perspective of the character of the individuals involved.

Although, I have a higher opinion of Naomi than the one expressed by the authors, they have successfully described characteristics that can enhance any human relationship, especially marriage. The authors keep their focus on bringing glory to God, not just improving our physical lives.

The book concludes with, “Let your God surprise you with what he will do with what you offer him to bless others. God is filled with surprises. Let him surprise you.”
