| In the Preface to The Heart
of a Great Pastor, the authors write, “Our purpose in writing this
book is to encourage pastors to see unparalleled opportunities in every
situation. We hope to provide a useful road map for people who want to
reenergize their ministry.”
The authors, H. B. London, Jr. and Neil B. Wiseman, offer encouragement to pastors and other ministry workers who may feel they are not up to the task of serving God and the church; or have burnt themselves out in efforts that seem to have borne little or no fruit. They begin by reminding the reader of the resources available to enable an effective ministry. “All things are possible with God.” Whatever discouragement or obstacle a person in ministry faces, God can provide the power and energy to meet those challenges. They remind the reader of the “perks” God offers only to people in his service. They exhort pastors to “live above reproach.” “Pastors are seldom forced to forfeit ministry because of incompetence, but because of impurity. Holy character is the bedrock foundation of ministry.” The Heart of a Great Pastor is not a how-to-do the job of a Pastor; it is a how-to-be-from-the-inside-out-with-the-power-of-God Pastor. Are you called to the ministry under the
leadership of Jesus Christ? Are you discouraged or in need of the perspective
of fellow pastors who understand the challenges you face? Through these
authors, in this book, you may find just the nudge you need to “stir up
the gift” God has given you.
