10 Lies the Church Tells Women

How the Bible has been misused to keep women in spiritual bondage

J. Lee Grady has clearly stated the lies that hinder women from full trust and obedience in God. His book 10 Lies the Church Tells Women exposes the irrationality of taboos and controls placed on women. He exposes the misuse of Scripture that prevents women from using their Holy Spirit given gifts and talents to serve God in the church and the world.

He writes, “Nowhere in the Bible are women called to be weak. A careful study of women in Scripture reveals that the godly women who served His purpose in their generation displayed courage, endured hardship and exercised the kind of faith that overcomes impossible odds. Righteous women in the Bible did not sit in the back of the church with their mouths shut or wait until they got permission to challenge injustice. The great women of the Bible were fearless.”

The author exposes the shameful prevalence of wife abuse in the Christian church. He writes, “Tragically, the problem also exists in evangelical churches--but it is often swept under a rug because Christian leaders either don’t know how to stop it or can’t reconcile the problem with their theology. That’s because their philosophy of wives and ‘biblical submission’ is an underlying cause of this ugly dilemma. Isn’t it time that the church stood up and shined a truly biblical light of truth into the world’s dark history of gender bias?”

Not all Christians will agree with some of the author’s theology or religious practices, but:  Frankly, I don’t care who wrote this book. I am glad somebody did. The material he uses to challenge commonly held beliefs about women's role is biblically sound.
