Part I The example of the women who followed Jesus from Galilee. 1. Luke 8:1-3; Matthew 27:55-56 Who traveled

Luke 9:22-26; Luke 14:25-35 What does it cost to follow Jesus? Does this
teaching of Jesus imply this is an optional cost?
2. Matthew 24:9-14; Luke 19:14; John 15:18-25;
John 17:14; I John 3:12-13; Romans 8:7 Why can followers of Jesus expect
hostility and opposition to the teachings of Jesus?

promise to those who are persecuted for teaching the same thing Jesus taught?
(Matthew 28:18-20)
4. Revelation 6:9-11; 12:17; 16:5-6; 17:6

suffering of Jesus?
8. Hebrews 11:25-26; Hebrews 12:2; II Timothy
2:8-13; John 16:21-22 Are you able to visualize your reward and future
joy so clearly that the effort and suffering involved in trusting, following,
and obeying Christ seems a small price to pay?
Optional: Read and discuss Matthew chapters
24 and 25.
* Note on question 3:
Some Christians believe that there are two Sabbaths, the annual Sabbath
of Passover beginning the days of unleavened bread (Leviticus 23:5-7) and
the weekly Sabbath between the crucifixion and the resurrection.
Jesus death would have been at 3 p.m. on the fourteenth of Nissan (Wednesday)
just as the High Priest sacrificed the first Passover lamb. His burial
would have been just before sunset. The women rested the annual Sabbath
on the fifteenth of Nissan (Thursday); prepared spices on Friday, the preparation
day for the weekly Sabbath; and rested on the Seventh day according to
God’s commandment. When they arrived at the tomb on the first day of the
week (which begins at sunset on Saturday), Jesus had already risen. Jesus
would have been , as he said he would be, in the tomb for a full three
days and three nights. By allowing for two Sabbaths, the annual and the
weekly, all of the gospel accounts harmonize. Check it out for yourself.
** Note on question 4: Most
scholars believe that Mark ends at verse 8 with the remainder being a later
addition to the text.
