Know The Truth By Scarlett Stough To prepare for this Bible study guide,
please read the Women in Christ Commentary The
Chosen Lady and Her Children.
Part I The Example of the Chosen Lady and her Children 1. II John1:1-3 Who are the recipients
of this letter? What do these first three verses suggest is the subject
of the letter?
2. II John 1:4 If “The elder” (v.1) is
addressing a congregation in figurative language, what does this verse
suggest about the commitment of its members? What does the phrase “walking
in truth” mean to you?
3. II John 1:5-6; John 13:34-35; John 14:15-17,
23-24; Matthew 5:17-20; 7:21-27; What description of “love” do you see
in the verses above? What does the phrase “walk in love” mean to you?

3:7-10 What specific deception is John warning about in his letter to the
chosen lady? How did Jesus say we could recognize false prophets?
5. II John 1:8 What warning did John give?
How can you heed this warning in your life?
6. II John 1:9 Rephrase this scripture
in your own words. What does “who runs ahead” mean to you as John uses
it? Where can you find “the teaching of Christ?“ What does it mean
to continue in it?
7. II John 1:10-11 How should individual
Christians and whole congregations handle false teachers and false teachings?
What similarities and/or differences would there be between how an individual
would act compared to a congregation? Compare to John 17:15-18 and I Corinthians
5:9-13.

you answer the question, “What is truth?”

13:8-13; 5:11 Paul wrote about accepting one another and refraining from
judging each other. He also scolded the Corinthian church for tolerating
certain behaviors. He also encouraged the church to judge certain matters.
(I Corinthians 6:1-4) By what standard are we to make right judgments?
How does love fit into both acceptance within the church and rejection
of error and sin within the congregation? Do you think this can have a
personal, individual application? If so, how?
