Grant Me Justice By Scarlett Stough To prepare for this study, please read
the women in Christ Commentary, A Widow
in that Town, and Luke 18:1-8.
Part I The Example of A Widow in that Town 1. Luke 18:1 Why did Jesus tell this parable
to his disciples?
2. Luke 18:2 Describe in your own words
the character of this civil judge? Give a modern example, if you have one.
3. Luke 18:3 What did the widow want the
judge to do for her? How did she go about attempting to persuade him? How
do you think the public would have reacted to the situation as it continued
over time?
4. Luke 18:4-5 How did the judge reason
her case? Do you know of any modern court cases that seem to have been
decided for the same reason?
5. Luke 18:6-8 What does Jesus want us
to understand about God's character in contrast to that of the civil judge?
6. Luke 18:8; II Peter 3-7 Why do you think
faith may diminish as we get further from Jesus’ first coming and closer
to his second?
7. How can you strengthen your own faith
and be encouraged to continue to worship and petition God in prayer?
Part II Justice for His Chosen Ones 1. Acts 24:24-25 What are the aspects of
the gospel that Paul preached to Felix, who was the judge hearing the case
brought against Paul? Why do you think Felix was afraid?
2. Jeremiah 9:23-25 What does God want
us to know about his nature and character?
3. Exodus 34:5-7; Psalm 103:6-18; Ezekiel
18:19-24 What did God reveal to Moses about his name? How does this proclamation
make you feel? How can God be both compassionate and still bring punishment
that lasts for generations?
4. Romans 1:18, 24, 26-28 How is God's
wrath expressed? Do you see these conditions in the world today?
5. Revelation 6:9-11; 8:3-5; Psalm 13;
Psalm 11:4-7 What reasons do you think God has for being angry with the
wicked? Why are you angry with the wicked? What similarity, if any, do
you see between the widow's plea and the prayers of the saints?
6. Romans 3:21-26; I John 4:13-17; John
3:16-21; Isaiah 53:4-12 Since all are guilty of wrongdoing, how can God
grant justice to his chosen ones?
7. John 15:18-19; I Peter 2:9-12; Matthew
22:14 Who are “the chosen ones?”
8. Matthew 5:43-48; Luke 6:27-36; Ephesians
6:19-20; Colossians 4:3-4; Romans 12:14-15, 17-21 How does God want his
children, his chosen ones, to seek justice now? How is this similar to
the way the widow sought justice?
9. I Thessalonians 5:17; Romans 12:12;
Philippians 4:6; Colossians 4:2; Ephesians 6:18; Luke 18:1 If you have
difficulty praying always, what hinders your prayers and how can you get
past those obstacles?
