These studies do not tell you what the Bible says. The scriptures given direct you to specific topics. The questions are intended to help you focus on the study. No answers are given. You have to read and search the scriptures for the answers. We encourage you to use Bible helps such as concordances and commentaries. However, scholars and theologians often disagree on interpretation and application. The best study help comes from God. Pray. Allow yourself to be honest with your reactions, but don't jump to conclusions. It takes time to read and meditate on all the Bible says on various topics. Feel free to ask questions in your prayers. You will be amazed to discover that God does answer the sincere seeker. You will also be surprised that the Bible may not say what you might think it does on many subjects. Keep a notebook. A loose leaf one would make it possible to add thoughts and additional information as you learn more about different subjects. Welcome to an exciting search.

Bible Study Guide:

Forgive Us Our Sins

By Scarlett Stough

To prepare for this Bible study, please read the women in Christ commentary, Forgive As the Lord Forgave You.

1. Matthew 6:12, 14-15; Luke 11:4; Matthew 18:21-35. Can we separate forgiving one another from the forgiveness of our sins by God? Can one be done without the other? Why or why not?

2. Matthew 9:1-8; Mark 2:1-12; Exodus 34:5-7. Were the teachers of the law correct in saying that only God could forgive sins? Explain your answer.

3. Isaiah 59:1-21. What is the effect of sin (many of which are enumerated in this passage) on our relationship with God? What promise did God make to Israel?

4. Isaiah 52:13-53:12; Romans 5:6-6:4; Luke 22:19-22; Matthew 26:26-29. On what basis are our sins forgiven?

5. Genesis 2:15-17; Romans 6:23; Colossians 2:9-15. Death is the penalty for sin. Jesus took that penalty in our place. Why do you think the death of the One was sufficient to erase the indictments against every person who ever lived?

6. Acts 2:32-41; 1 John 1:5-2:6. What should we do in response to the love and mercy God offers each of us?
