By Scarlett Stough

1. Ecclesiastes 3:1-14. Mourning is as much a part of this earth bound life as is birth and death. What can this passage tell you about the reason for the many different circumstances we face in this life?

2. Matthew 5:1-16. What does Jesus teach us about the source of our ultimate joy in his beatitudes?

3. 2 Corinthians 1:1-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 5:1-11; 2 Thessalonians 2:13-17. How does God comfort those who mourn?

4. John 16:20, 22; Titus 1:1-3; Romans 5:1-11. How is Jesus our hope? What do the sufferings of this life have to do with hope?

5. Revelation Chapters 1 through 3. Many have become disillusioned with the church and often disillusioned with God as a result. What hope does Jesus offer those who persevere in faithfulness to God through the disappointments and rejections?

6. John 10:1-18; Ezekiel 34:1-31; Psalm 23. What promise did the Sovereign LORD make to Israel? How did Jesus apply it to himself? How has he been your Shepherd, comforting you and giving you hope?
