Blessed is the Woman (A Psalm One Meditation) by Nancy Vandemark

A Christian is like a tree planted in the ground by a flowing stream. As a tree gains strength and stability from its roots being deep and firmly planted in the ground, so we gain our strength and stability from being rooted in Jesus Christ.

A nearby stream brings in nutrients and moisture that allows the tree to flourish by drinking in the nutrients and moisture through its roots. “On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." John 7:37-38

That stream of living water enables the tree to blossom and produce fruit as the Holy Spirit enables us to produce spiritual fruit.

The wicked reject Jesus. They have no roots or firm grounding for life. Like chaff, they blow away from the living water and will dry up and perish.

If we delight in the study of God’s word, it will keep us stable. Following God’s way will keep us from making mistakes that harm ourselves or others. In doing so, God promises to watch over us, nurturing and strengthening us.
