We are presenting
the following book review in the category Children and Family Activities
as a possible resource for families. Many parents are eager to find creative
and fun ways to involve their children in learning biblical principles.
The author Martha Zimmerman was just such a parent. As a seminary student
decades ago, she discovered the benefits of celebrating the Biblical Feasts
days listed in Leviticus chapter 23 to teach and reinforce Christian teaching
about Christ.
In the introduction to her book, the author wrote, “This book contains suggestions for celebrating the biblical festivals….The suggestions presented here for celebrating the feasts are not to be used as a legalistic set of rules to earn God’s favor but are to be used as teaching tools to help our families honor God.” The author includes lists of materials for suggested activities, Scripture references that teach lessons appropriate for each festival, and recipes that makes each celebration special for the whole family. For example, the book has a complete guide for celebrating a Christian Seder called a Haggadah. Included are suggestions for fun family activities that teach salvation through Jesus. She encourages celebrating the biblical festivals in the home as a family. These celebrations have the potential for strengthening family relationships as well as being a way to honor God and pass on traditions that reinforce trust and obedience toward God. |
